Combined with the need for new behaviours across the workforce comes a new leadership requirement. In steady times, leaders were there to keep the ship on course – a much more task based role. In these much more testing times leaders need to be able to balance the need to be transformational when required as well as keep the ship on course. They need to be flexible and agile in their thinking and to be able to respond to very different scenarios.
We refer to this as situational leadership. We have worked with many leaders (Council Leaders and Chief Executives) and their senior management teams to develop a new approach to how they run the organisation. This includes coaching and mentoring, and also practical support to develop and deliver their strategy and delivery.
